Panic Open String

Most importantly, someone out there has to go with me to The Flaming Lips show at The Phoenix on April 4th. $39.50.

Check out some pictures I took of The Old Soul over at i (heart) music. There should've been a lot of better photos but my camera battery died on me. I wanted to cry, cos the lighting was so great. I also didn't realize who the lead singer was until much later. I'm such an amateur.

I really enjoyed their set, though. There was a lot of engery on stage and it was a lot of fun to watch them. I don't think the songs are good enough to make me want to listen to them, but you couldn't ask for more from an opening band. There was an obvious musical chemistry between them and they easily pulled off the non-traditional song structures. At least, it looked really effortless, which is impressive considering they've probably had to work endlessly at perfecting it.

The Magneta Lane show from earlier in the week was almost everything I could ask for, except it was really short. Claiming not to have practiced a lot of songs recently [including some of my favs off Dancing With Daggers], I guess there wasn't an abundance of songs they could draw from. The seemed even more comfortable on stage than when I had seen them last. Lexi showed pretty impressive vocal control and improvisation. French actually moved around and didn't look utterly bored. And the songs... well, they just glitter when played live. It was also cool that Lexi was wearing a Gypsy Kings shirt just after saying they were a guilty pleasure in the interview

Of course, the lighting was horrible for their show and the pictures show it [and also how bad of a photographer I truly am]. Without flash they blend into the background. Nothing looks natural with the flash. Plus the flash picks up peoples heads very easily, no it's no use. The guy in two of the photos was a friend of theirs they brought on stage. There are a couple of random pics from Ottawa after the Magneta Lane ones. Enjoy!
