It's better if you come back to it over and over, you can pretend he never got up.
I re-watched
Su-Ki-Da and it definitely fortified it's place in my favourite films. It's a bizarre to think that with such a formula, that it's just so slow-paced and with little storyline, that it should fail. It shouldn't work, but it does. It feels like an artistic masterpiece, and almost poetic. I mean, the only other time I've heard that word being used for a film is with Kitano's Hana-bi. It's the characters faces too, the depth. You can attempt to read the characters faces, because it's all there - especially with Aoi Miyazaki (young Yu) and Hidetoshi Nishijima (old Yosuke). Miyazaki plays awkward so well in this film, and the camera sticking on Nishijima during a bar conversation showing him listening. And that the director Ishikawa likes to tease the audience with certain scenarios, characters and lead-ins.
But all of that is noticeable due to the slow-pace of the film, which is why, I think at least, that towards the end of the film is such a low blow. That you've been lulled, similar to Miike's Audition, before the almost harrowing closing. Brilliant film.
Kudos for making me want to turn it off halfway through with an aggressive sudden need to make a film.
EDIT: I was going to mention it, intended to twice and still forgot. Mentioning reading the characters, the moment in the street with the thief and Yosuke is brilliant, I just want to know what the thief is thinking. Such an epicly awkward and random scene.
Carey Mulligan, British actress. Interesting prospect. She's in An Education, which if the trailer wasn't so horrid with the over-sentimental music in the background doing a bland job of trying to stir up some emotion, it could've been nice. Dare I say it, she seems and feels close to an early job of say, someone around the lines of a British Maggie Cheung. (Ridiculous to throw things like that around). But I won't say that on this blog, because that'd be crazy talk and I don't want to appear crazy. We'll see though. Has horrible taste in men, is dating Shia LeBeouf.
