Cars and Pickups and Fires and Deer

My '97 Camary was technically my dad's until about a month and a half ago when I put over four hundred dollars into replacing the CV SHAFTS.1 Having paid for bill,2 I get full rights to the car I have been driving ever since we landed in Texas.

It burned a day before my wedding. "Burned," of course, is just a word. Here are pictures.3

As terrible as it is to lose a car to flame, the honeymoon was safe. Two days later and Tamar and I would have had everything in the car: clothes, computer, passports, money, credit cards, shoes.4 As it is, I lost a black tie, one wedding present, and my key ring. Fortunately, my brother managed to snatch his cigarettes from the front seat and escape unscathed,5 if not confused. The best guess at a cause has been something electrical.

As it turned out, my dad said we could use his truck. Somewhere in Montana we hit a deer. Cars and I have had a bad month.

1: It is in capitals because that is how it looks on the bill. I am still amused by how many things print or receive in only capital letters. Also: I have no idea what a CV SHAFT is, except that it is important and expensive.

2: Well, at least committing to pay for the bill. It is on my list of things to do. Poor mechanic...

3: The two in the pictures are my father and uncle. They like to pretend they put out the fire with those little, bitty extinguishers.

4: Tamar likes shoes.

5: Unscathed except for a cough. But we expected that: he smokes cigarettes.
