November the ax missed me
December the ax missed me
I avoided getting cut on the 4th of January
However January 21st I got hit
Yes kids I got laid off from Williams-Sonoma this week. WS just reduced their staff by 20% , Tuesday was a complete bloodbath at my office. Our department went form sixteen people to eight. (Including 2 supervisors) It was an expected blow……Quite frankly I’m amazed I lasted this long.
When our VP did my exit interview she started to cry. I felt bad for her. She said “I’ve held up OK until now, MRP I knew the moment you walked in my office I would loose it” I felt flattered. That and when I walked back to the cube area someone yelled “ FUCK MICHAEL TOO!……WELL NO MORE FUN IN THE DEPARTMENT …ITS GOING TO SUCK HERE NOW” I love my old team
But let’s not forget I am who I am. When asked if I needed any boxes to pack up my desk I told them “It’s already done, I did it last week” and since I suspected I’d get the ax that day I spent the morning changing my computer tabs and document titles into Finnish. :-)
One last bit of nastiness: As my supervisor walked me out (the person who made ultimate choice on who was to go) she told me “it was all a numbers game Michael when things pick up we want you back” I said “honey don’t worry about me I’m worried about you” she said “what do you mean?” I said “Well speaking of numbers our department now has only six people. Do you REALLY think they need a VP and two supervisors for only five people?” Then I gave her a hug and walked out the door” Petty I know…but then I’m a bitch.
That being said; WS was very good to me. They paid me till the end of April and I have my Heath Benefits and DISCOUNT CARD till then as well. NOW WHO WANTS TO BE BAD??
So I’m now looking for a job, if anybody has ANY leads, let me know? I will be looking in San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, and maybe even London.
