For those gay who bitched at me relentlessly for supporting Hillary Clinton during the primaries, or yelled at me when I bitched about Biden's comment on gay marriage during the VP debate. I have say….. SUCK IT! I told you so! To quote

And, again, there are consequences for that. In great gay tradition we gave it up too easy and now we're wondering why he doesn't respect us.
The piece that's not being talked about is gay privilege. Being gay isn't like being black or being a woman: you can usually hide your gayness. The ones who are out are the ones who can get away with being out (along with the ones who are too queer to pass, or too gutsy/foolish to stay in the closet when they should.)
So the active gays tend to be relatively privileged in other ways. They can be philosophical about things like this, because most of them can afford to live in safe neighborhoods and gay-friendly areas. They don't have to worry much about getting fired, evicted or bashed for being gay. So they focus on lifestyle issues like marriage and they view the legitimation of an anti-gay hatemonger as no big deal: they're not going to suffer the consequences.
