I was looking for a new TV show to get into and I finally found it! Oddly enough, it's a reality show. It's called Project Greenlight.
A bunch of people submit scripts online, the scripts are voted on by users, then the finalists get read and selected by people like Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Wes Craven, and other industry professionals. Then they select a director via a similar process. That's just the first episode of the season.
The rest goes through the whole process. Pre-production, production, post, and eventually the finished product.
I've started with the third season because it's the only one I could find at the moment, but I love it. Although, I'm on the second to last episode of this season and I've decided that there's something very odd about it. I think what gets me is that I'm pretty familiar with the capabilities of the best equipment, and they have some amazing sound for the kinds of shots they get. I wonder if they have key people hooked up with wireless mics, but I doubt it. I wonder if they actually do ADR in post. What's more likely, though, is that some of these scenes that play out are somewhat staged. It's a movie set, so there really is a lot of work that's being done, so they wouldn't have time to stage everything; but I'm sure that if a meeting or a conversation is about to take place, they get mics for it at the very least.
I don't even really care that much, though. That's because, staged or not, it really is realistic. The conflicts, the attitudes, the stress, almost all of them are things I saw on the set of Jerry. Watching the show does take me back there. Even with the problems and the stress, I want to be right back on a set again. This show will have to do for now.
I actually originally watched it for some inspiration for the script, which I got. Now I'm just watching to see what the hell happens next!
