This was written over a period of a couple weeks.
-Saturday night Brittany and I were driving up to Fort Wayne. We were on I-69, listening to music and talking. I think I started to doze off or I just zoned out, because what happened next came out of nowhere. The car just started fishtailing down the highway. Fishtailing at 50 miles an hour is quite disconcerting. So we're fishtailing for a few seconds, and then for just a moment it felt like the car was about to get its traction back and put us back to normal, but that was then the car started fishtailing again. The car then started spinning. I remember saying, "Oh shit. Oh shit. Oh shit." Not even yelling it, just saying it. Brittany replied back in an equally calm tone (as the car is spinning out of control): "It's okay. It's okay. It's okay." Then all of a sudden we weren't spinning anymore.
Within a few seconds, I realized what happened: we had spun off the road and landed in a ditch. I stood outside of my self for a moment and was just taking in what had just happened. Then I snapped back to reality and I looked around. I looked at myself, I was okay, and nothing on me hurt whatsoever. So I turned to Brittany and asked her if she was hurt, and she said no. She was just very very shook up. I had to take that in for a moment, because I was just tripping on it: we had spun into a ditch at about 50 miles an hour, neither of us were hurt and even the car was fine, save for a busted bumper cover.
A car had pulled over by this time to check on us. I got out and talked to them and let them know we were okay. They called 911 for us. While I was outside, Brittany called her dad who called for a wrecker to pull us out of the ditch. As I waited for the police to show up, several other cars pulled over to check on us. There were at least 20 of them, people were very good to us that night. I stood out in the wind and blowing snow for about 20 minutes before the police finally showed up to check on us and make sure that we got out of the ditch all right. Once the police got there, I stayed in the car until the wrecker got there. We got pulled out of the ditch without too much trouble and we were able to drive home with the bumper cover being the thing that suffered the worst damage. We were extremely lucky that night.
-The next day Brittany and I met with Pastor Tim in regards to the marriage counseling... which eventually turned more into relationship counseling. This was the start of a very hard day. The session was very good for us, but extremely painful. Brittany and I had been holding back quite a bit of frustration and angst in regards to our entire relationship for quite some time. Neither one of us had been happy for a long time and both of us had trouble really communicating with the other. The latter has been a recurring issue in our relationship, but not an insurmountable issue. That night we had a very long talk that involved a lot of tears on both our parts. The epilogue is that we've been working toward making the relationship better, tighter, stronger, and it's been going well. More details as they come.
-Brittany told me the other day that some of the TCOM guys she worked with on the documentary last semester don't really like movies. That was baffling to me. I mean, I understand that not all TCOM people are going to be quite as nuts about film as I am, but I can't imagine being in a media program and not having interest in one of the biggest outlets for media. Film is kind of the powerhouse of the entertainment world, with offshoots into every other form of media there is. Even though television has more viewers in sheer numbers, film is what gets the biggest and best treatment there is, typically with the best talent and crew available. From film you'll get websites, viral marketing campaigns of all kinds, toys, tie-in deals, the largest distribution available, and so on. If you're into marketing, sales, graphic design, writing, editing, producing, whatever it is that you're into, film is the place to be watching and paying close attention to.
-My cat licks her own crotch quite a bit. It's nothing new or weird, but what's funny is that she won't do it if she knows you're watching. She'll stay in the spread-eagle position for a while waiting for you to turn your head away, but she simply won't do it if you're looking at her.
-I'm willing to grant that the right-wing media pundits, as much as I don't like them, make good points some times. For as often as they are wrong, sometimes they hit things right on the money, and you can't say something is wrong just because a certain person or group said it. However, sometimes it shocks me the kinds of far-reaching things they'll say without their tongue in their cheek, with no irony in their voice, and with no hint of saying that their comments are to be taken as a bit of hyperbole. Rush Limbaugh (go figure) made one such comment the other day. This is the exact quote: "Racism in this country is an exclusive province of the left." So he's trying to put forth a "fact" that all racism comes from anyone who's not conservative. Wow. I agree with ya, Rush. And you know what else?--I think all car crashes are perpetrated by alligators. Does that sound bizarre, far-fetched, and unrealistic? Okay, never mind then, all car crashes are caused by the left. That sounds so much more reasonable put into perspective....... Sorry about that. Sometimes I forget how much I hate Rush Limbaugh and then he says something like this and my blood just boils instantly.
