War On... Terrorism? Religion, probably

Oct 10, 2008 11:57

The high majority of wars fought in the world have not been fought for monetary gain, but rather have been one religion against another. Whether it be Christians against Jews, Christians against Muslims, or Christians against another faction of Christians.

As George Carlin put it: "God is one of the leading causes of death."

What I'm thinking is that maybe this "War on Terrorism" was never really a war on terrorism. Maybe not even a war for oil. OPEC could simply say they aren't going to sell to us any more. Then where would we be?

I think that what we have going on now is a New Crusade. The Crusades were fought hundreds of years ago, and they were spread out over several centuries, it was Christians against Muslims. The Crusades went on for no other reason except to try to wipe each others religions out.

Unless you've been living under a rock for the last year, you've seen all of the accusations that Barack Obama is a Muslim. Whenever he is accused of being a Muslim, the world "Terrorist" shortly follows. That's what has happened in this country, that "Muslim" and "Terrorist" have become synonymous.

Barack Obama, being black, and having a Muslim name has shown America's racism for what it really is. It has reared its ugly head and it's not going away.

At a Sarah Palin rally in Florida, she mentioned Barack Obama and someone in the crowd shouted "KILL HIM!" At another rally, someone allegedly shouted "OFF WITH HIS HEAD!" Someone also started yelling racist comments at a black cameraman at a Palin rally.

Can you imagine what would happen if someone yelled something about Palin at an Obama rally? Obama would be shred to pieces by his detractors asking him why he attracts the kind of people who would say those things.

I won't say with a broad stroke that the conservatives in this camgaign have encouraged the hatred toward Obama, blacks, or Islam, but I will say as a blanket statement that they have done NOTHING to DISCOURAGE the behavior.

Brittany recently received a chain e-mail of someone trying to use Biblical passages to say that Obama is the anti-christ, even though the e-mail invents a lot of wild interpretations of what Revelations actually says. The e-mail goes on to say that a good Christian would not vote for Obama. I can't believe that these people have the audacity to use God as an excuse for their illogical racist hatred. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

I've been thinking about all of this a lot lately.

It is those kinds of messages that make me ashamed of my country and Christianity.
