It's been a productive summer to say the least. In early June my old as dirt laptop decided to die on me, effectively leaving me cut off from the online world for two months. I decided to wait on getting another computer, and it turned out to be a good thing because my productivity levels shot through the roof. Caving and rafting were fun, but that's sadly come to a close as of Labor Day. I got hooked up with another Caving company, so I should have some sporadic spelunking sessions now and then this winter. Mike, Julie, Emily, and myself ended up not going to the Dominican Republic due to conflicts in schedualing.
So you may be asking what is Pseudosynthesis? It's the name of my movie. Well.. OUR movie. Back in May, Erica, our rafting photographer, came to me with a proposition. She's a photo major, but she's taking a film production class this semester. Everyone in the class has to make their own hour long movie by December, and Erica wanted ideas. At first she just wanted me to star in it, but after I threw some ideas at her she wanted me to co-write it with her. As of right now we're still writing and looking over each other's drafts but here's a couple things that you fine readers get to look forward to once we're done and I post it somewhere for all to see: A magic Shortbus, vicious blood-thirsty pinatas, exploding boyfriends, commercials for edible guns, dandy Highwaymen, a thought-provoking look at the inherant dangers of teaching robots about Communism, and Super Gimp. I'll be posting storyboard and production stills as they become available. In the meantime, if somebody could point me in the direction of some very cheap S&M gear I'll be most grateful. Andy, old friend and ex-roommate, has also expressed interest in possibly scoring the music for the whole thing.
I will be taking some time off this September to go check out some of the better known caves that are not in NC. As soon as I get my ascension harness from Petzl I'll probably be going up to the Adirondocks in New York, but I need to get ahold of a local guide company in the area, because I'd prefer not to go it alone (I'd also need a place to stay if there aren't any campgrounds nearby). If that doesn't work, then possibly down to the Brown Mountain area of NC with it's spooky ghost/ufo lights.
Also, a bit of a side note for all of you History buffs out there, I have some recommendations. Bookwise, I highly recommend "For Want of a Nail". It's an alternate history book about what if Britain had won the Revolutionary War. It's very very thick, and reads like a History book that fell out of an alternate dimension. I can definitly see the remaining founding fathers running off to Mexico and forming the Republic of Jefferson though. As for Movies, I recommend "The Confederate States of America" by Kevin Willmott. I believe Spike Lee helped produce it, but anyways it's about what if the South had won the Civil War and Annexed the rest of the US. It's made to look like you're watching some bizarro version of Ken Burns' "The Civil War", and they cut the movie up with commercial breaks for products that USED to be a part of our history but not anymore, such as DARKY BRAND TOOTHPASTE, Coon Chicken (fans of Ghostworld will recognize the place), and The Slave Homeshopping Network. Anyways, I'm gone for now so you all have a great day :)
