So... interesting couple of weeks, I suppose I should get started.
Two weeks ago me, Emily, and Megan went down to Greensboro to see Mike and Julie. All five of us used to live at Pebble Creek, and were collectively known as "The Treehouse crew". Mike finally got accepted into UNC-G so they moved down there very quickly, around the same time me and Megan&Emily moved out of Pebble Creek. Julie finished up her Masters in Sociology and got a job with Media Matters, a political news website based in DC, so our visit was more of a "say goodbye to Julie party" really. I want to take a moment here to thank Julie. When I first got out of the military I was a hardcore Neo-con, drifting somewhere near Libertarianism as well. After living next to Julie for a year she managed to totally turn my political opinion upside down, in fact most political tests rate me as a Socialist these days. Anyways back to the story.
We all had a blast at Mike and Julie's, even though I could tell that this is all very hard on Mike, he wishes he could move up to DC with Julie but he's just gonna have to deal with UNC-G for the time being. We only spent the night at their place, in the morning the three of us piled back into Emily's car and we drove back up to Boone. A few days later I went back home to the Outer Banks to suprise my mom for her birthday. She was very glad to see me and definitly made her day, her bad back doesn't allow her to make long car trips and she hasn't seen me in over 6 months. I spent five days at home, mostly just catching up with my family and our numerous pets. I hung out with Laura, Amanda, and Woody (who made me do a double-take, I haven't seen him since I was in the Highschool band) as well as checked out the animal shelter. My mom's the SPCA president for Dare county so we got to play with cats and dogs all day. I really wish I could have a pet, I'm definitly moving to a place that allows pets next year once my lease runs out. On the next to last day on the OBX my dad and I went car shopping. I ended up getting a Honda CRV, which was the best blend of hauling power (I'm acumulating way too much crap at this outdoor job) and gas mileage (it's only a few miles less than my old Dodge Neon). I drove back home to Boone all the while trying to figure out what each button in my car did.
Once back in town, I found out that Emily was throwing a pot luck, so I threw together some Curry rice (extra spicy) and headed to her place. Emily's great at throwing pot lucks, there ended up being something like 15 people there and we all had a good time (except for the people who didn't know that my rice had curry in it.... heh). So now what? Well... I'm dreadfully bored. Most of my friends seem to be embroiled in various bullshit drama, so I spend a lot of time at home while my friends bicker with each other and whatnot. oy. Now that October's here, hopefully I'll be called into work at the ski rental shop. It's only a matter of it being cold enough for the resorts to blow snow on the ground. Even though I've been back in town for less than a week I'm thinking about travelling again. Maybe to Boston, or to Texas. I think Roman's taking some leave from the Marines soon, so that's a good enough excuse to visit Plainview. Then again I never have actually met Megan (of the McFerren persuasion) in person. For all I know she's just a very clever internet chatbot. I'll think on it.
