escapism

As a way to try and escape some of the perpetual stress that seems to plague my living moments, I have undertaken a small hobby, in which I try to control my dreams. I have had a little success at it so far, being only 3 nights in. So far I have successfully incubated 2 dreams - one fully successful, and one partially successful.

One of the key tenets in this hobby is to continually get better at dream recollection. That is something I hadn't been practicing for quite some time, and now I'm starting to realize that because I wasn't making the conscious effort to recall the dreams, I wasn't remembering them anymore. Already in the past 3 days since I've started keeping a written record of the dreams, I have had 3 successful nights of dreams that I can remember. Before, I rarely even had a dream that I could remember, unless it was super vivid.

The premise I'm trying to stick with is that once I get very good at recalling my dreams, I shall have enough influence over my subconscious to better influence a dream before it happens. And this is the stumbling block for me - I'm not sure how I am supposed to actually influence it. I've tried repeating or chanting phrases to myself as I drift to sleep, in the hopes of them influencing the dream, but that doesnt seem to consistently work. There has got to be a consistent way to keep influencing the dreams, whether it be by self-hypnosis, intense concentration, or perhaps intra-daily reminders of what you hope to dream for at the end of the day. The latter being the most complicated ... seems like its probably the best bet. It reminds me of one of the strategies to master lucid dreaming. But that's a long way off.

If I can get the hang of this, I might never get out of bed.

But it's just a little hobby for bedtime, after all. Makes some of the stress go away temporarily ... I guess that's all I can hope for.
