Dune by Frank Herbert

Re-read of this Science Fiction classic.

Now that I am over a half-century of age, appreciate additional aspects of the book.

The passage that lets the Reader know the Fremen had some influence over themselves on Arrakis:

"We know the Guild wants a prohibitive price for weather satellites." ... "Satellites watch the terrain below. There are things in the deep desert that will not bear frequent inspection." ... "The Fremen! They're paying the Guild for privacy, paying in a coin that's freely available to anyone with desert power--spice."
The passages about the Bene Gesserit (BG), and that one of their goals was civilization-cope breeding of different genetic traits, and combinations, for a better humanity as the BG desired it.

Also that, at the end of the first Part of the book, that Paul, with a body saturated with Spice, starts to be able to "see" about the BG, and even the fact that his Mom has Harkonnen genetics.

In the third section of the book: Spice coffee! 8D

EDIT 2024-03-14 Finished re-reading Dune. Had forgotten that the middle third of the book, where Paul spends time with the Fremen, lasts for as many pages as it does. Had forgotten some of the discussions and philosophies. Now my memory is refreshed.

2024, book, books
