Because LED light bulbs are so expensive, I scribe the year I bought and installed them, using a tungsten-carbide scribe tool (looks like a mechanical pencil).
I intentionally buy dimmable LED bulbs, because it is my hope the electronics are a little more robust than non-dimmable bulbs
Just this week, had one of my Philips LED bulbs fail to turn on. It's an 830 lumen, dimmable, 3000k bulb.
The year I scribed into it was 2013, so it only lasted two years! It was installed into a 3 bulb 'downward facing tulip' fixture, one bulb per tulip, in the central bathroom of my house.
Disappointed.
Is one LED bulb failure a trend? No, not yet. But I will continue to track how they have lasted, then can likely look back and see if any failure/disappointment trends appear.
