tiny victories: fried eggs!

Nov 18, 2012 23:10

All my life, I have failed and failed and failed to make myself a nice sunny-side up egg for breakfast. I have told all and sundry that I like making scrambled eggs and omelettes (more flat than fluffy, but I am getting there) because that's all I can make for myself. A nice fried egg requires intervention.

But now! I have achieved fried egg! I still can't make it sunny side up, but a misshapen over-easy? CAN DO!

--Admittedly, it is a singularly unhealthy breakfast. My workaround involved frying bacon on low for about 20 minutes to let the bacon fat accumulate, shove bacon to one side, crack the egg(s) into a handy bowl (because cracking it into the pan=scrambled egg in the pan. Eggs hate me ;), pour eggs into pool of bacon fat, tilt/move pan so majority of fat/egg is over the hottest part and wait. The bottom of the egg whites will soon detach from the pan so this is my chance to sort of scootch the egg over so the uncooked portions hit the fat et voila! One not-an-even-circle fried egg, over easy. VICTORY.

(I went on to use the leftover fat to lightly fry some asparagus spears. That's healthy, right? :D Two Sundays in a row I have managed this heart attack breakfast... I declare myself eggscellent. ;)
