Accident
I am a trained EMT, supposed to be able to handle emergency situations.
A car in front of me swerved to miss some construction equipment, went into the dirt, overcorrected into the other lane and went into the ditch. I was shocked she didn't flip the car. Held it steady, it turned sideways and she ended 10 feet from the train tracks. I stopped, as I was trained.
Called 911, and got the wrong county dispatch. stayed on the phone till they got it straightened up. Injuries in the car. teen driver, two young children, a 20 year old sister trying to calm her 17 year old driver. All out of car, no visible injuries, keep them away from the road. Train due any minute now.
Found out the driver was a student of mine. She is hysterical about losing her first car, won't admit injury, just wanted to vent. Spent 15 minutes calming everyone until the police arrived. Finally got her calm about the car, admitting her head hurt. Little sister said her shoulder hurt, it was her collar bone, not broken. Most important thing, the puppy was all right! After 30 minutes I gave the cop my card, told my student she had a free pass to R and J, and went back to rehearsal.
Everyone was all right, except for bruises and bumps. the train passed 10 feet from us, scared me to death having a 7 yr old that close to a train
Tried to finish rehearsal, but I am a wreck. WTF...I'm trained in this shit...I'm not supposed to let it get too me.
no one died, the car is fixable,
The thing is...I didn't have to stop!!! Her brother was yelling HELP HELP and no one stopped.. Why not???
I'm exhausted, for no reason. A hero, for stopping and hugging people and talking to a child? easiest thing in the world.
I think I will collapse now.
