Holiday activities

I had last week off and Glow was up to visit. We had originally planned to go surfing in Tofino, but I decided I just couldn't afford it this summer, so it's on the back-burner for now. Instead we decided to stick close to home and do a bunch of fun activities here in the Lower Mainland.

A quick rundown of the week's activities:
 -  We went camping with many other queers at Queeruption in the woods on the Sunshine Coast. Saturday night I helped prepare dinner for 350+ people with several other volunteers on a wood stove and 2 gas burners, no electricity or hot water. There was no boss and hence, no clear organization. This of course challenged my control-freakness, but you know - it worked! I enjoyed the multi-tasking and the food was pretty good.

- We ended up coming back early alas, but decided to attend Vancouver's Pride Oddball. We had a blast as usual.

- I learned how to sail (well at least the basics). We rented a very small sailboat from the Jericho sailing Club and Glow gave me a lesson. It was very intuitive. I have never been on a sailboat of any kind before, but I managed to keep us out of the water for at least a 1/2 hour! It helped that we didn't have a lot of wind - good for beginners.

- We had an art date. We went to see the Monet to Dali exhibit at the VAG and managed to See an Andrea Zittel retrospective that was so inspriring. Went out for drinks afterward and fleshed out an art project that Glow is planning.

- We went kayaking in Indian Arm (1/2 hour NE of Vancouver, but still attached to Burrard Inlet).  I chose Indian arm because it's usually calm waters, yet still scenic and outside of the city. We launched from Deep Cove and paddled for 3 hours or so. It was Glow's first time kayaking so the tables were turned from our sailing day - I was able to show him something.

Someone owns this island. There is a private bridge leading out to it.

There is a cave here that G is just exiting from. One of the things I love about kayaking is the ability to get into tight places and see things that bigger boats can't.
