Touchingly, many people suddenly remember and pay tribute to Paul Westerberg when he touchingly remembers and pays tribute to his friend Alex Chilton in the Times.
"You know, the Replacements guy," say fans of 80s college radio and "modern rock" to their friends.
"I thought Chilton was the Replacements guy?" say friends who mostly listened to Tom Cruise movie soundtracks way back then.
"No, Westerberg sang about Alex Chilton. Westerberg was the singer/songwriter in the Replacements. Behold as I heave a disdainful sigh at you," replies guys who considered themselves quite "cutting-edge" on their dorm floor because they were the only ones who didn't crank GnR and dressed in a fashion best described as Elvis Costello splices Sid Vicious by way of Brundlefly's teleporter.*
*Yes, I knew this guy.
sarcasm,
remember the 80s?,
weren't the 80s great?
