Es la Ley!

Burris and his supporters are starting to sound like kids negotiating with a teacher over every question on an exam they've failed, applying literalism and creative definition wherever it suits them. "Here, you said that George Washington was the Father of Our Country, not Ben Franklin, which is what I said. Well, since Ben Franklin was also a founding father, couldn't you say he was also a "Father of Our Country," just like George Washington? I mean, that's how I read it."

"It's the law!" is the watchword. Yeah, okay. And if Blago had been discovered eating babies rather than trying to sell off a senate seat, you'd be cool with him selecting our senator too, right? Because darn it, the man is innocent until proven guilty, even if you do have video of him saying, "Yum! Babies! Yum yum!" while marinating a toddler for the grill behind his Albany Park home. It's the law, by gosh, and it's safer to let some sleaze put his sticky fingers all over a respected political office than to interfere with the process.

Sure, pal.

I suspect the "It's the law!" crowd are the same sort of yokels who gave Georgie a free pass after 9/11, overlooking his every deadly fup-uck because "now is not the time for divisiveness!" (i.e., discussion). Saying it's the law, even in the face of corruption and stupidity as deep as Mariners Trench, betrays a desire to avoid debate, either for the sake of personal gain (on the part of the Republicans, who would no doubt love an easy win for one of Illinois' senatorial seats, especially after the drubbing Obama gave Alan Keyes), or, even worse, because they're tired of hearing about it (which seems to be the trend among lazy and bored members of the Press).

Meanwhile, this is my favorite photo of the day.

Mainly because of this guy, who looks like Chris Elliot pouting.

"They won't seat Senator Burris!?! Well, I never! Harrumph! Why, I'm gonna hold my breath until I turn.. Whoa... Ouch, that kind of hurt my brain."
