Wait a Minute...

I just realized that Bush didn't have the common sense to stay down after the guy threw the first shoe. Think about it. The reporter whips his shoe at Bush. Impressively, Bush ducks and dodges the shoe, taking cover behind the podium... then he gets back up and looks right at the guy taking potshots at him. Imagine Kennedy standing up in the car and looking for Oswald after the first shot. "Duh... Hey, what's that glint up in the book depository window?" Pkow! Pkow! "Argggh!" If Muntadhar al-Zeidi had a gun or, who knows, was handy with a blade (hey, that was pretty good aim. I wonder if he practiced in the backyard?), he would have had two excellent opportunities to snuff George. Yeah, the Secret Service should have been faster (perhaps it was the distracted holiday slump we all experience this time of year), but you know who's immediately responsible for your personal defense? That's right. You are. Don't walk down dark alleys at midnight. Don't flash money. Don't pick fights with drunks in bars. And for chrissakes, duck for cover when someone throws something at you!

I mean what the hell? Whatever I think of the guy, we can't have another president assassinated, especially on foreign soil. Don't they sit him down on day one and say, "Mr. President, don't worry about how it will look on videotape. If someone takes a shot at you, hit the ground, hide behind a solid object, or duck behind one of your agents. No offense, but your office is bigger than you are. The president dies and nations bleed. Use your goddamned head, okay?"
