The only reason why I don't think it's utter bullshit is because my brother Eric's first wife had exactly that same attitude. Thankfully, my parents were able to step in and take care of my niece when my dear ex-sister-in-law discovered that the baby "that will love me unconditionally" wasn't just a doll she could put in the closet and ignore after a couple of weeks. It wasn't just her, either: one of the reasons why I left Wisconsin was because I simply couldn't believe the number of girls out there that figured that all of their problems could be solved just by getting pregnant.

That said, I think the hype about the story is deepfried bullshit. Remember that "any sufficiently developed incompetence is indistinguishable from conspiracy", especially in areas where the brain cells run a bit thin. This is no different from the runs of weddings in offices after one of the typing pool has her special day and every other woman in the place suddenly decides that she's tired of just being "the girlfriend". A pregnancy pact, though, sounds just like the sort of shit that a 16-year-old would say when answering "I don't know" to "Why did you think this was a good idea?" sounds particularly stupid, and some ideas are so stupid that only a newspaper editor would run with them.
