White People Stuff
The Stuff White People Like blog has turned into one of those subjects where I can't stop writing about how much it annoys me. It's a bad situation. If I protest too much about a bit of Internet trifle, I look like a kook. Maybe it's best to scrap the essay and just run the points that I feel are most salient to the issue.
So, why does it bother me so much? Precisely because it IS trifle, but it's profoundly divisive, discriminatory, and creepy trifle. I suspect right-wing sentiments disguised in the sort of snarky candy coating that appeals to liberals who don't realize they're being gulled. I guarantee you it will be in book format very soon, and will turn up in the same media it decries. Will that mean they've sold out, or that the liberal media has once more been infiltrated and manipulated? More likely it's more of the same distracting crap that keeps people separate and free from discussing the real issues.
