I'm not going to try to committ to a ficlet a day for the whole month, but--despite not being Jewish or any of my characters being Jewish--I am going to try for a ficlet a day for Chanukkah (I use the Ch spelling, because I've not the first clue of how to put an h with a dot under it to represent the aspiration of the het as opposed to the softer sound of the he).
If I randomly hit you up for a prompt that's why. Grabbing is based on people who are on and appropriateness of the current convo, so don't feel bad if I don't grab you. If you wanna prompt, you could also drop a comment with a prompt!
And thankfully, the Jewish day is Sunset to Sunset, so this one isn't even late!!
Also, wow it's early this year!
Prompter:
satine86 Prompt: "Give all to love; obey thy heart."--Emerson
Notes: With an Emerson quotation, I had to go A/Z since Zoe's last name is Emerson. But, it kinda went a bit different than I expected.
She had been a bit of a play girl. After all, she was a novelty, and there were more than a few women who found the forbidden alluring. Siobhan had strict rules though--never more than once with any woman and before their congress the other was to know that it was not the beginning of a relationship, and married or engaged women were off-limits, as was any woman that one of her brother’s fancied.
Despite those limitations, she had never found herself lacking for potential partners, and her preferences were an open secret.
Which explained why Tuon was so very amused when he caught her sitting at a fountain, trailing her hand in the water and humming to herself. Laughing, he approached her, “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say that you’re acting like a girl.”
She quickly withdrew her hand, scowling at him. “That’s ridiculous.”
“Mmm…a love-struck girl at that.” Tuon grinned. “Of course, that’s impossible. I believe you’ve run through more maids than Nascha, which can only mean that you’re under a spell!”
“And you are still an idiot.” She stood, rolling her eyes.
“By Gaea! I think it’s happened.” The younger blonde grabbed her arm. “Some lady has cast a spell upon you. You’ve not snuck back from an rendezvous in weeks, and you’ve been leaking the oddest feelings. So, what extraordinary woman has managed to slip past your thorny barriers?”
Siobhan’s jaw tightened as she glared at him. “You’re imagining things, Tuon.” Her expression softened a bit as she smirked, “Probably projecting more than anything else.”
He shrugged, “I fully admit that I’d gladly burn in love’s bright flame, but that’s not news.” Tuon studied his sister for a moment, “It’s one of them isn’t it? Of course, no mere human lass could touch your heart. Which one?”
Once again, Siobhan rolled her eyes, “Don’t worry, I’ve more sense than to pursue Mars. You’re quite safe in that suicide mission. Has Endymion had to heal any more burns?”
“I like her temper, and the chase is half the fun.” A waggled eyebrow showed that Tuon did not take Siobhan’s attempt at an insult as such. “They’re all dangerous, warriors, almost goddesses.” He glanced towards where he’d found her when he first came into the garden, “And I believe, you’d take your chances drowning.”
Siobhan pushed him away, once again glaring at him.
“She’s not anything like the girls you’ve had here, but I think you’d make a good match.” Tuon ignored the anger that was radiating off of his sister, as he could sense the embarrassment and fear she tried to reign in beneath it. “Stop fighting it, Siobhan. Obey your heart. Love is dangerous, but it’s worth it.”
