For Rishi, a Consolation Prize

Jun 26, 2010 15:52

elvisvf101  didn't win a foil last night and Jie's all pouty because South Korea lost.

So here's a consolation prize:

Jie was stuck in front of the television, shaking his head in denial. There was no way that had just happened. South Korea had not just lost. This was simply not possible.

In a rare sign of compassion, the others were leaving him alone, with Nate pacing nervously. If they did not dislodge Jie in time, they’d have to move for the USA game.

Zoe glanced into the living room, bit her lip, and pulled out her cell phone.

“What are you doing?” Kadir raised an eyebrow as Zoe scrolled through her contacts.

The woman grinned as she looked up to their commander, “Calling the one person who can fix him right now. I get that you don’t care about the World Cup, but the rest of us do. And the fact that there are still Eastern teams, doesn’t change the fact that he’s reeling right now. South Korea is his home, and when Ireland didn’t make it, there was only one thing that could make me forget.”

Mamoru chuckled, “Zoe, you really are a guy sometimes.”

Rolling her eyes, Zoe pressed the call button, “Liking sex does not make me a guy. Now shut up.” She was silent for a few moments until Rei picked up on the other end, “Rei? Zoe. Jie kind of needs a pick me up. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Thanks. I promise, we’ll keep the sports/sex talk down. What?! I can be a girl when needed.”

She sighed as she hung up, “Gods, why does everyone think I can’t show some tact and sensitivity?”

“Um… because two days ago you were arguing with Nate about scoring.” Mamoru chuckled as Kadir smirked.

“Yeah, because we both advanced. Totally different situation.”

A few minutes later the priestess entered Makoto and Nate’s living room turned man cave. She nodded slightly to Nate, but moved immediately to her husband and wrapped her arms around him.

It took a couple of moments, but eventually he leaned into her, relaxing a bit.

“Hey.”

Jie smiled wanly to her, “Hi.”

“Come on, love. Let’s get you home.” She glanced up to the others who were watching from the kitchen.

Zoe rose her hand, “I’ve got it. Ami’s off tonight and Saeko was planning on coming over. I doubt they’ll mind Kimi and Hiro joining us. Besides, let’s be honest, tomorrow, I may need the favor returned.”

Even Jie blinked at hearing that bit of honesty, but Zoe simply shrugged it off.

Rei nodded “I’ll call Ami and make sure it’s ok. Thank you.” She stood, pulling her husband up as she did so, with surprising strength. “All right, home. No more World Cup for you today. Just you and me. Ok?”

The man nodded, “Yeah, ok. Thank you.” His smile was genuine and he stood up straighter as he walked out of the house with his wife.

Nate grinned, “Good, now the USA game. Thank Gaia she didn’t say ‘it’s just a game’.”
