Zoisite was shaking with rage, but she forced herself to bow and say what she was expected to say, "Of course, , My Queen, I will accept your will in this," though her fingers were crossed at her side.
It was no secret that she was not happy, that she opposed this plan, even if no one else understood why she was not thrilled by Mercury’s presence. Nephrite tried to assure her, that in a few years it’d be a good thing, that Mercury would both be old enough and adapted. Jadeite rolled his eyes and told her to man up already. Kunzite simply watched her, an odd frown on his usually expressionless features. Beryl simply ordered her to stop hindering Mercury and let her do her job.
She tried to avoid her. She did not want to see her, not here. She did not want to remember the way the other woman had used her, but she also did not want to see the pain that she was in. This place was not where Zoisite wanted to be reunited with the women she’d loved, who’d used her, and whom she had ultimately killed. Yet when she had heard the lonely song being plucked from her harp, she had no choice but to go to her, to gently tug her hands away from the instrument and pull her up to her. No words were spoken, but for a moment the two former lovers danced to a melody only they could here.
After that, it became impossible to avoid her. They would often walk together, though never touching or talking. Companionable silence was the most either could do, and only when the pain of being separated from and forced to fight against her sisters overwhelmed Mercury did they touch, as Zoisite simply held her and let her cry.
As much as Mercury somehow managed to bring light into the Dark Kingdom and into her life, Zoisite could not stand having here there. Mercury’s pain was too much, too overwhelming, and being allowed to ease it a bit was not enough to make her presence bearable.
A chance came during a battle. Zoisite whispered a softly apology, even as she tripped the other, making sure to do enough damage to her ankle to keep her from getting up quickly. Mercury had always been the strategist rather than the warrior, though she had been well trained before, in this life, she was a fourteen year old girl with powers, but she was not the seasoned warrior that Zoisite was, and the combination of shock and pain kept her down.
Zoisite just managed to see the light of the Ginzuishou envelop Mercury and smiled to herself even as Kunzite grabbed her elbow and teleported them away. He never turned her in, but he also never allowed her to fight the Senshi alone again.
Ami fought hard to suppress those memories, and for the most part she succeeded, but the others always noticed, that her attacks never focused on the blonde woman when they met the enemy.
