Lending a hand

Last week, I was able to do a shakedown run on my GSX-R750 at Thunderhill Raceway with Keigwins@theTrack. I also had the chance to work with a few riders as a guest instructor, who posted their feedback on a local internet forum. They were pretty jazzed about it!
Having an open track day was nothing compared to the help and instruction from Mike ( Read more... )

I made sure I didn't go out there and up the pace to "play" with the racers I normally goof off with. The Vesrah S-RJL pads and Brembo MC have some gnarly bite to em - with that warped rotor, if I got into a corner just a wee bit hot on the brakes, it would have been all too easy to lock and tuck the front.

With the stiff setup, the bike bucked and kicked over the rougher high speed sections of track, even after backing out on preload and compression. Trying to ride around the setup wouldn't have been in my best interests.

First session out, I got it all kinds of sideways going through an oil spill from a bike that just crashed. Too close for comfort!

Nice. Gotta make you feel good to get that kind of unsolicited positive feedback. Let me know when you do some instructing at an East Coast track, I'll be there.

I dunno if I'll ever go any farther east than Reno Fernley - as much fun as it is to work with other riders, I can't hack the miles on the road the way I used to.

The Keith Code school invited me to instruct with them years ago, but that was a larger commitment than I was willing to make.

I'm jealous...of your understudies. Man, when I finally get my ass over to the left coast I will tap your brain for some track knowledge.. I'm really slow.. still a baby at riding.

Am I gonna see you at Laguna Seca next weekend? I know Christy (wickedwahine gone MIA) mentioned being there...

Unfortunately not - I'm running the Vineman Half Ironman triathlon next weekend :) On top of that, I don't really like Laguna - the conditions were gnarly last year, and they don't let me ride my bicycle around the track.

Still, it's pretty damn neat to see those bikes in person. Have a good time!

That's actually one of the guys I was working with. Go figure, we're both Asian (if you count Filipino), we both have blue MotoGP leathers, and we both have Suomy helmets.

Totally nice guy - he was gonna let me use his Ducati 749 when I was in between GSX-Rs!
