my readings

So I read another Ayn Rand book called "Anthem". You know how with books you can sometimes real obviously see that the story is a weak front over whatever message they are tying to get out, and more of an afterthought than inspiration? Well this book was the epitimy of that. The story was, well, unoriginal. A mix between brave new world, farenheit 41, and 1984 but not near as good as any of those. The whole thing was littered with instances where I just would have rather her blatently say what she was trying to say than smear the thin layer of icing on top that she called a story. I had fun reading it though, and it gave me a lot more insight into the flaws of Objectivism.
I put the last of The Dark Tower series on hold at the library last week. I was number 72 in the queue, so it may be awhile. Maybe abrams will just bring it home for thanksgiving. But I guess I won't be there if he does. Drat.
I started reading Into the Wild, by the request of Liz, and am really enjoying it so far. It is about this guy, who right after graduating college donated all his money, $24,000 to charity, ditched his car, hitchhiked around the country, and eventually went in the Alaskan backcountry and died of starvation. I am only about 1/4 way through, but I really like the guy. He was in Arizona and walked past a canoe for sale, so he bought it and went down the river in this canoe to the bay of California in mexico. "Hey, there's a canoe, I shall go to Mexico." I gotta get out of this whole 40 hour work week thing as soon as possible.
