So. I had my first Japanese class today here in Sendai. It was a very very small (me and three girls, one is a married Indian girl and two are reasonably cute Chinese girls) class. What Iwasa-sensei neglected to tell me is that I was going to be entering a class that has already been going on for three months! Im so far behind these people, they speak faster than I can comprehend most of the time and know a form of verb that I dont yet. They were impressed that I could read Hiragana as well as I could for only having studied for three weeks. But again, I cant read fast enough to participate in group readings and things. The class has also progressed past the part of the book that uses romanji (the romanization of Japanese to our alphabet) as the text. This makes for slogging through the book most of the time. I will have to study a lot to catch up to this group but it will probably help me alot. Its also good that Im not taking 4hrs of language a day.

A note on my apartment. Its expensive and its small. 1650 USD for two months is alot. However, the place is in Downtown Sendai and is very centrally located. Its smaller than dorms at Rice and about the size of my hotel room in Tokyo. It is nice that it is fully furnished with a table, TV, dishes, toaster, microwave, WASHING MACHINE, linens, stove, sink, desk. All of these are very small but the fact that the apartment packs them all into such a tiny space is pretty amazing. Side note: They have started construction outside my window at night and I hope it stops soon.

On matters of home: Fkn mavs are letting me down like crazy. USA world cup team suprised me when they showed as much guts as they did vs italy, and completely let me down when they blew ass vs czech. We dont deserve to advance but if we play well vs ghana well have made a statement.

My sister starts college in a couple of months. I wondering how well she will be able to do there.

どもありがと
