We live in a society today where quite frequently we are bombarded with what the socially acceptable body structure is. The media is constantly waiting for an opportunity to write about if an actor or actress is getting fat or loosing too much weight. This puts an unreasonable standard on societal expectations. Brain washing people into believing getting fatter is unacceptable.
Yet by the turn of the twelfth century people who were fatter were considered royalty. The people that were tanned and skinnier were assumed to be slaves; because slaves would work long hours in the sun with little to nothing to eat.
Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder, especially presently. Beauty is not a standard or something that can be proven. We all tend to be overly critical of ourselves. We see all the media coverage of the ideal people on TV and subconsciously start thinking beauty equals attention. It’s not the right kind of beauty though. Most people living by this credo of having to be skinner, because they’ll be more desirable are drowning in the perfectionist idealisms of society, instead of just being happy with who they are.
What needs to be understood is our differences make us who we are. It’s corny, but it’s true. It’s an insult to God for us to not accept our body for what it is and try to shove it into the World’s view of how we should look, until we don’t even recognize ourselves anymore; or until we are so miserable with ourselves we can’t stand to look in the mirror anymore.
There are always people that are going to be better, comparing ourselves to them is pointless and time consuming. Even the person you aspire to be like or be better than have heroes or people that they look up to.
