so, quickly (relative to the years i've been working/thinking/writing) this is coming together. i realized that the dream i had about iggy pop/satan/superman raping that girl was an eros dream. so, i know that the Man (don't know his name yet) in the book will be having eros's dreams and it'll be revealed such during the course.
on another note, i've been thinking about cupid a lot. is he real? is he a phantasm or spirit that appears to the Man? the simple outline is such:
the Man is a desparately lonely guy, with feelings of incompleteness. he meets a girl (Wanda) who is a waitress and a sometimes-stage actor. she performs only in the mesmerist Shudder's plays (the first of which will feature Fear and Lust with Wanda as the Stage). so:
the Man
Wanda
Maestro Shudder
these 3 come together in a triumvirate relationship. during the course of this the Man is introduced to Cupid. whether this is through a seance (with Cupid as a spiritual entity) or Cupid is an actual person/godling i know it all happens at a party thrown by Shudder. Cupid and the Man commiserate/consumate in some fashion and work out some deal whereby Cupid will make the Man all he wants to be. Cupid himself is a loathesome, extremely misguided thing, mostly because of the dark, unknown history of his father (Eros). the Man will also be besieged by visions of Wanda being an object of sexual attention by many men in the haze of the event. this haunts him, and plays on his fears of betrayal, which makes his deal with Cupid also an act of self-preservation.
so then follows an emergence of a life for the Man that was previously thought to be inaccessible. women, drugs (?), excesses. Cupid though, is affected by the innocence of the Man and while he seeks to corrupt him, is slowly coming to a Realization. they will meet halfway as equals, and then pass, with the Man becoming the dominant corrupting force, and Cupid seeing the error of his ways.
meanwhile, there is exploration of the relationship Wanda has with the Man and Shudder. confusion and uncertainty, brought on mostly by the hypnotizing nature of Shudder. she seeks to be free of her overwhelming need to heal the broken while she herself has a crack down her center that has never mended (her hurtful relationship with her father). she wants to heal the Man, but can't in the way that would truly be pure.
and finally, there will be confrontation: the Man and Shudder. i don't know what this means yet, but i know that the answer lies in the vast store of strange characters and stories i've already told. it's a puzzle piece that will neatly fit, and will become clearer to me as i write.
i've written the dream of eros out, and figure it will be broken into several smaller pieces as the story progresses. i cannot call it a 'book' until it is done, so for now it is simply the story.
