I feel like typing this up, because it's pretty amazing and anything beats APUSH packets, even reading the chapter and not doing the packet, which is what i was just doing. Also, because I love the JV boys very much, and their story is super awesome.
Ok, So this saturday, I pretty much watched some crazy disney movie happening here in my life, as the J.V. Boys went to MVALs. Our J.V. Boys team is pretty amazing, they're good at the sport, great guys, hilarious, and cute. On the team, Kieran "Cakeface" Hassett, the beaast of the team, has been great since the start of the season, anticipating, stealing, and an overall pretty great player, he's a great guy as well. Kekoa "Koala" "BruceBruce" Wu, was another player who stood out with previous experience. Those two led the team in the pre-season to a fairly dominant and auspicious start. The J.V. team's season seemed unsure throughout the early days, as Irvington was desperately seeking to recruit enough people to even have a team. The team included Micheal "M&M" Muldoon, Jeff "Yeti" Pietkiewicz, Nathan "Papaya" Zucker, Taylor "T-Wad" Sweet, and Danny "Carrottop" Blizel. As the season approached, D.J.'s brother decided to try it out (D.J. had been fairly successful last year as captain on varsity). Derek "Skippy" Gigurerre began the season rather slowly, since he is half-paralyzed. Most of us were amazed he made it through one day when he said that he didn't think he'd come back. We were unsure if Andrew Clark would joins us, as he expressed interest last year after seeing his brother in goal, but was very committed to Cross Country. Overall, the season seemed like it would be interesting, with two great players and a bunch of inexperienced ones who didn't understand even some of the most simple concepts of water polo.
Eventually, Andrew "X" Clark joined, as the only sophomore player on J.V. And Derek continued to come to practice. They played their first game against Washington. It was a close game throughout, but Washington finished ahead with a comfortable lead. The J.V. looked ahead and easily defeated Logan and Newark by a large margin, holding back, making sure to turn what could have been an easy W on their record into important practice for some of the more inexperienced players. They faced Mission and faced a 3 to 1 defeat, which much of the team blamed saw as a bad game. They looked past it and continued to practice hard, easily defeating American. Looking forward to their Washington game. Things seemed to be going well until the second half, when Washington turned things around and turned the fight into a win, beating them by four points. Our J.V. continued on, with a great sense of comradery to their second Mission game. The first half was filled with great defensive plays on both sides. it was 0 to 0 until late in the second half. When suddenly, with 18 seconds left on the shot clock, Derek turned and swam to the other goal. Everyone watching was fairly confused as to why he would make this decision, leaving his defense in a 6 on 5 with plenty of time left, but with a turnover, he was wide open in the middle, in front of the goal. A beautiful pass from Taylor, who was obviously improving by a large margin, gave Derek a goal to put Irvington ahead. Three more goals throughout the gave Irvington a 4-0 victory over Mission. The Boys had pulled off quite a feat and now faced the challenge that their whole season had been leading to, MVALs.
They began the day with a relatively easy game against Newark. They then faced Mission, and pulled off a 6 to 3 victory to play in the championship game against Washington. In the locker room, the boys sat in anticipation. Nerves building. They were satisfied with second, but man, wouldn't it be awesome to get first? Taylor looked around and tried to comfort them. Win or lose, I love you guys, we did awesome. Their coach walked in. "That was the worst speech I've ever heard." So, with the big game awaiting, the boys prayed and thanked God for allowing them to get were they were. They left the locker room to face Washington, a team made up of mostly seniors, juniors, and sophomores. "Aww, Irvington beat Mission? Mission's more of a challenge." One of their second string players remarked as the teams passed.
When the game began, only two minutes into the first quarter, Danny Blizel had drawn two kickouts on their best player, and since three kcikouts meant that he was out of the game, this forced him to play more conservatively through the rest of the game. The first quarter ended with Washington leading 1 to 2. In the second quarter the intensity continued with a score of 2 to 3, Washington. And in the third, the score of 4 to 5 showed that neither irvington was not slowing; whereas, Washington had just lost one of its best players as he threw a punch at Michael and was kicked out of the game. In the final minutes, Irvington tied it up. Their coach was confident at that point in an Irvington victory. "They thought they were going to come out here and kill us. When it was 5 to 5 in the fourth quarter, they were upset and they had lost it mentally."
The game conitnued and a narrow miss from their best player sent the teams into overtime. The game continued and after some great play, One of their players was kicked out for tossing the ball away from our player after a foul, giving Irvington 20 seconds of an advantage. Koala received the ball from Taylor, the goalie. He passed it up to Derek. "Don't shoot!" he shouted as he noticed that Derek was motioning for a shot. Their hearts sank as it looked as if their opportunity would be wasted immediately after being given to them. Most of them shouted "NO!" As the ball left hsi hand. It sailed quickly and was deflected up into the air by the hand of a defender and sailed up over the goalie into the back of the net. Irvington had defeated the undefeated Huskies. Cries of victory and relief filled the pool area. Everyone was so happy. Everyone had improved so much. They looked at one another in disbelief. Almost every second adjusting to the fact that they were champions.
The players went out for pizza, so proud, so excited in what their team had become. "Who would have thought at the beginning of the season that we would be MVAL champs?"
That's what disney movies are made of, dawgs.
