The legendary journey of stuff and junk

May 08, 2011 21:00

So, today I made a grip of grub for Mother's Day. Brussels sprouts with olive oil and sea salt, mushrooms with a soy salt glaze, some boiled potatoes, and a whole mess of strawberry daiquiris. Then we watched "Billy Elliot." Am I the best son ever? Probably.

Other good stuff:

I applied for a job at citysearch.com as "Content Operations Specialist." My friend Kathy works there, and put in a good word for me, saying that I was a much stronger candidate than the folks they've been interviewing. She seems to think it'll pay $40-50k/yr. So, in the near future, I may get to quit my crap job, get a sizable raise, and move to LA. It really does make you less depressed to have something to look forward to. If I DO get that job, two things are gonna happen. Thing the first: going away party. Thing the second: a place for all of you to crash when you're in LA. We'll drink beers. You like beers, right?

When discussing this job with my mom, she gave me a haircut in case I have an interview. Then she said, "If you have an interview, you should make sure to wash your hair and wash your butt so you don't smell like sweaty butt." Sound advice, mom. I almost think that's good advice for LIFE, let alone interviews. Admittedly, this was post-daiquiris.

Speaking of daiquiris, I've been practicing making a lot of mixed drinks. Another project, I suppose. My liquor cabinet is getting downright respectable.

Last Monday our trivia team (called Bel Biv Quizshow that week) won 1st place for the second week in a row. We are unstoppable pub quiz beasts. If you ever want to compete against us, come down to the Auld Irisher any Monday at 8. Or you can go to geekswhodrink.com and find one in your area. Look at these fucking winners:

The game came down to a tie-breaker between us and another team. In previous weeks, they had settled ties with a dance off, so I was mentally preparing the most vile stripper routine I could muster. Then they settled a third place tie with a chug-off, so we were ready for that, too. Turns out, they settled the tie with more trivia. Whatever. I can take my pants off to music some other time, I guess.

I already posted a sweet 2Pac jam on my Facebook for Mother's Day. Here's basically the country version of that same song:

That's all I got for today. I'm going to go relax. I am a master relaxer.
