Character's History Katherine “Kitty” Anne Pryde was born to Carmen and Theresa Pryde, a couple who raised their daughter in the relatively average suburb of Deerfeild, Chicago. She was as normal as an intelligent young girl could be, until several months after her 13th birthday, when besides the usual trials of growing up and having parents who were on the rocky edge of a divorce, Kitty began to experience agonizing headaches, before finding herself in different rooms completely. She was becoming a mutant.
Two people very soon became aware of this. Emma Frost who funded her own school ‘Massachusetts Academy’ invited Kitty to enroll, while the other; Professor Xavier similarly did so, but to his own “School for Gifted Youngsters”. Eventually Mr and Mrs Pryde chose the latter after an incident where their daughter and other students from the man’s school were attacked by Emma Frosts goons. Escaping, which she did by simply moving through the wall outside Kitty followed the goons, managing to receive the X-mens phone number from a captured Storm. In the end they were all rescued.
During her time with the X-men she took on the names Ariel, Sprite and eventually Shadowcat experimenting with her own costume numerous times. In the early days she became good friends with Storm and developed a crush on the shy Colossus, wary of Wolverine and the demon look-alike Nightcrawler. After some rough adventures, like swapping her consciousness’ with an alternate version of herself, saving the X-mansion come school from the demon N’Garai; with nothing but her smarts and ruining Magneto’s computer system by phasing through it like she had accidentally done to Xavier’s once Kitty temporarily left the X-men. It was the fault of the telepath, Emma who influenced the girls parents unfairly- making them want to have Kitty attend her academy. After the infiltrating trap had been foiled by the X-men however she was back in her rightful place.
Kitty had to then deal with a range of different situations. Almost shuffling off the mortal coil thanks to a queen brood egg implanted within her, a boyfriend jealous of Doug Ramsey, a boy she only shared interests with, the xmen being abducted, a run-in with The Yakuza clan and a lengthy time unable to solidify her tangible form.
Luckily she did meet Illyana Rasputin, Colossus’ sister, despite seeing her at first, a six year old child, then moments later a teenager, as well as a young woman named Rachel Summers who coincidently came from the alternate consciousness that had been swapped with her own. Bonding with both girls she also managed to patch things up with Colossus after a long process of working out their issues.
Moving on from her team, Kitty joined Excalibur, a British group of mutants - at Rachel’s urging. She was then told of Doug Ramsey’s passing. Still grieving her new team was drawn into an event later called ‘Inferno’ as many demons invaded New York. Only after the demonic invasion was over, Kitty learnt that her close friend Illyana had sacrificed part of herself to stop the situation, and inadvertently became a six-year-old girl once again.
After loosing much of her team in a timestream she decided to call it quits and pick up a more normal existence by attending college. The British college she intended to enroll at was in hindsight not the best idea. Worried she would be too young, and looked upon oddly as a foreigner, she had to spend on year in an all girl’s school. While Kitty eventually earned the respect of her peers, she decided to abandon her new friends in order to help her team; the recently returned Excalibur defeat Mesmero rejoining them soon after.
Meanwhile Illyana had contracted the Legacy Virus and was in critical condition. Without a second though Kitty rushed to her best friend’s side, getting there in time to see another treasured friend pass away. Little wonder she became involved with Pete Wisdom despite his brash attitude, especially after Rachel entered the timestream, trading places with Captain Britain and Colossus sacrificed himself to rid the world of the virus which had taken his sisters life.
Rigby Fallon was the one person who knocked some sense into her about Wisdom, eventually… Having met the young brunette through SHEILD, an organization which had offered Kitty an internship [A clever trap actually set up by Ogun - once member of the Yakuza] he wasn’t one to lie about the blatant truth. Clearly doubting the relationship himself Pete left the team instead of discussing his problems. It taught her a lot about how relationships could go so wrong.
Taking another leave of absence for respite, leaving the team, Kitty traveled to Genosha only briefly returning to the X-mansion in order to take Colossus’ ashes to his mothercountry; Russia. Leaving a letter for Xavier stating that she had enough of the hero life and wanted to go to continue her studies in a college she said her goodbyes to Storm.
Enrolling at the Chicago Robert A. Heinlein School for Engineering and Astrophysics, Kitty rented an apartment and tried to rebuild her life. Even during this period of being ‘normal’ she eventually became fed up with an anti-mutant organization named Purity and its members. Beat up Jeff Holloway, who after an altercation had taken her over the edge. Almost expelled she was forced to attend ‘mandatory counseling’; a part of the condition she had to abide by to remain at the college, which in hindsight wasn’t a bad thing. Learning her father had died while on Genosha; a place where most of the inhabitants were murdered by Cassandra Nova’s Sentinels’ Kitty was distraught.
Continuing to live in Chicago Kitty was abducted by Lady Deathstrike and through a man ‘Stryker’s various means ended up in Mount Haven, where a quaint man; Reverend Paul was trying to control the mutants within with his nano-bots. With Xmen to the rescue she once more came to their side. Discovering Colossus alive, the shock of the situation slowly wearing off fell in love yet again with her first real crush.
Third Person Sample RP Tag: The day was shaping up quite well. The most recent snowstorm had dropped ten inches on upstate New York shortly before dawn, blanketing the entire school property in a soft wondrous layer of white -something even penguins would be jealous over. Like any good storm it had frozen the roads, making going out to breakfast a little too difficult but watching fully grown superheroes and "gifted youngsters" throwing snowballs at each other however was quite a fun and interesting distraction from the mass of papers on her desk teasing her.
Pulling her woolen gloves up a little more to cover her wrists as she crossed the field, Kitty grinned. Sometimes she missed the joy of being a teenager. In some respects there was far less chaos in her life, at least on the schooling front, but in others she did enjoy the freedom, the challenges that working in the school, with the X-men brang. Her mind briefly wavered to the work she would have to do after her small moment of respite.
Walking to a bench and sweeping a gloved hand along the surface to clean off the moisture, the brunette sat down next to a very cold and bundled up student, someone she had only had the pleasure of meeting once. "Mind some company?"
The younger mutant nodded but didn’t appear quite confidant enough to start a conversation. Miss Pryde turned back to the students on the field. "Welcome to the sidelines. I keep waiting for them to break into rugby. The student nodded, muttering under his breath about feeling excluded. Well on a day like this, that wouldn’t do.
“Come on we’ll show them.” With his hand in her hers, moving effortlessly without sound, through a large oakwood tree, Kitty maneuvered them both behind three giggling girls. Making a turkey sized snowball Miss Pryde held it up, flashing an innocent smile to the new student, before dropping it.
First Person Sample journal entry (First person): So today: weathers fine, moods fine, kids fine. Couldn’t find Kurt to tell him I’m in need of his expertise, but that can wait till the a.m. especially since this pile of work on my desk won’t be getting any smaller no matter how many fairy godmothers owe me favors.
On another note, I had the good fortune to meet a new student the other day. I figure that’s worth mentioning here since he really is quite a nice kid. I remember the first time I was in New York. All those tall buildings making you feel like you're some measly ant walking through a lawn, just scraping by minding your own business hoping not to get squished by some random shoe.
Well here I am, yet again, enjoying the beautiful technological wonder that is the computer when I should be getting ready for tomorrows lesson. Kurt if you read this, I might drop by unannounced tomorrow ok? Fair warning!
Everyone else - goodnight, sleep tight.
