Feline Hepatic Lipidosis

One of our cats came down with liver failure Thursday before last, so we brought her in to the vet. We didn't realize anything was wrong at first because all of her food was being eaten (by the other cats) and we seldom pick her up because she hates being carried. Her lethargy and secluding herself in the closet is what tipped us off that something was wrong.

Turns out she had FHL AKA Fatty liver disease. She came home Friday night and now we're in the process of helping her recover. So far it's feeding her 4 times daily via a feeding tube a set amount of liquefied food. This will continue for the next several weeks. I've got the feeding method under control after the first day of near disastrous feedings

Hopefully her recovery goes well. So far she's still lethargic from the sickness but hasn't vomited up any food. The jaundice has almost completely gone away and now it's just pale areas on her gums and skin. She's responsive and can walk but desires to just lay down still. She has a bit of bladder control issues as she's urinated on me once as well as urinating on the bed last night.

So yea, if your cat loses any noticeable amount of weight go to the vet immediately and get an ultrasound of the liver. I wish we'd discovered it sooner because she was pretty bad by the time they diagnosed her and put in a feeding tube.
