After the expulsion of Honduran president Manuel Zelaya, the US took a firm stance in unequivocally backing him. This was done almost as a knee-jerk reaction. But given time you'd expect the US position to evolve. It hadn't.
Let's be clear about the ouster, it was done with as little violence as possible and as far as we know, no one was killed. In response to it, Zelaya demanded there be violent retribution on those who took part in the ouster. Well it's borne fruit.

Keep in mind this was after an open and democratic election was held. And even if Zelaya was instated as president of Honduras, he'd have to vacate the office in a few weeks. Really worth it, right?
