hey paul, it's good to hear from you again. i'm right with you on most of this. it's hard to make kisses worth anything when people hand them out like coupons to a chinese restaurant (you know, you get 5 a week). i'm not all about the party scene, either. i spend most of my nights right here at this computer, typing away words that i pretend to mean something. but you know what? that's what i enjoy, and that's all that matters. drinking is not my forte ... growing sideburns is. me and you can rock the sideburns, haha.
these days, people only believe in black or white. what happened to freedom? what happened to personal beliefs? we just follow along what other people do, and when we come to a fork in the road, we pick one of the two paths. none of us ever start walking through the woods ... but why not? we're too afraid to stand up for anything on our own. religions get pitted against each other, and politics do nothing but clash. we need to learn how to blend ideas together.
anyways, about the religion thing, i don't necessarily think that we all have to believe in a "higher power." religion is more about the faith. it's about finding comfort in something. it can be a god, it can be grasshoppers, or it can simply be music. it is whatever gets you by from day to day. in the end, though, i think we have to believe in ourselves over everything. if you can't believe in yourself, then how can you believe in anything else?
as for the poem, this part is my favorite... Lives swallowed by a corporate machine When did patriotism become the new excuse? Fanaticism seems more appropriate Hell, at least we see more its use
not only is it written well, but it has the best ideas in it. it's very clever and insightful.
