Double Crime

It had been him the whole time.

Officer Dudly slumped down in his chair. He stared at the papers and photos piled neatly on one side of his desk, the very ones that had confirmed his worst fear. The un-arranged plastic bags of evidence and a tipped over coffee mug on the other side of the desk reminded him of his condition. He couldn't believe it.

The way the body was neatly set and cleaned when it was found. The way the whole room had been re-arranged so it was picturesque, the dishes washed, the pillow fluffed. The murderer had cleaned up the whole place...just like Officer Dudly would have done.

...

Just like he had done.

He wouldn't let anyone know. He couldn't. He was innocent. It wasn't HIS fault! He was never that clean, why would he be? Cleaning makes you worry too much or something. It was...HIS fault! He was guilty! What would they think! They would give him counseling. Lock him up in a fancy dress white suit with the belts in the wrong places! Would they even believe him? No, the hoodlums. They would toss him a a cell to rot.

...Mr Dudly didn't like clean things...Mr. Dudly didn't like his condition...

***

Mr. Dudly Dudly pled insanity before the court and was issued to Madam Orgle's House o' Crazy Heads where he currently resides, and is coming along nicely. He is able to control his mood changes greatly and can even play chess with himself. After the murder I thought there would be little hope, but Mr. Dudly has shown me that miracles do happen.
