The Silent Beach

Sep 04, 2003 23:37

The boat hit the rocky shore with a jolt. It's front half jutted out of the water, securing it loosly to the beach. It sat, silent for a moment, the foggy night air closing in, and then something inside stirred.

It was a tiny man.

No more than a foot tall, the little human had trouble climbing out of the boat, and when he did, he slipped and then sploshed into the two inch deep water. He sputtered and flailed about for a moment, then scrambled to shore, sopping wet.

Clad in nothing but a pair of trousers and a bandana, the little man scurried up to the beach and across the sand with un-natural speed, especially for such a tiny individual.

He jumped under a palm frond, and lay still, breathing quietly but quickly. The ocean waves caressed the sea shore, but all else was quiet. The man curled up into a ball and fell asleep almost instantly, his tiny breathes crystalizing in the cool air.
