Excuse me for being all "Mr. Grammar Expert", but it should be "a potato *lay* upon a smooth table". Potatos lie, not a single potato.

...The reason for this is, potatos are always a bad influence on other potatos, and when they get together *none* of 'em tell the truth.

Yeah, I know I'd get that wrong. 'Cause as I was writing it, I remembered this class discussion I had in Mrs. Wait's English class about how people can't get "layed".

Oh ho ho, there were some fine misunderstandings in that class, to be sure.
