Mathew Nagle ~ R.I.P

Death has a way of really messing with your mind. This afternoon, one of my friends committed suicide. I can’t help but to think and reminisce about all the good times we had together before our lives went in separate directions.

I met Matt and John Nagle back when I was in 7th grade. The three of us were involved in a community service youth group and we became pretty close over the years. Our parents were friends too, so both of our families started getting together over Christmas and the Thanksgiving holidays.

As we got older, I started doing awesome in track and I focused more on school and athletics. I called them every once in a while, but didn’t really have a lot of time to hang out, because I was always extremely busy on the weekends. (They were in a different school district.) Matt watched me win the County Championships when I was a senior at WHS, but I think that was the last time I saw him in person. Both of them moved away to their step mom’s and I began my college adventure at IUP.

We kind of lost touch, but Lynn (their mother) would give us a call every once in a blue moon. John started working full time at Redners and Matt was cooking at a local resturaunt.

The last time I spoke to Matt was about a year ago.

Today I found out that he hung himself in his step mom’s basement.

It came to me as a shock because I remember the happy go lucky kid with the bowl shaped hair cut. It kind of gives me an eerie feeling, sort of like when my grandma passed away, because you never believe it when you hear it or see it.
