Orchestrated chaos!

Tonight’s season finale involved a lot of craziness, but I had all the procedures down to a T. One of my biggest concerns was actually the player introduction.

1. I had to make sure that everyone on the starting lineup had a mini ball before they went out to the midline.
2. The U-11 girls from Wilson were the escorts and I had to team them up with one of our starting players. I also had to make sure they knew how to do their job as ball runners and give them their field positions.
3. I also had to present a game ball to the Manager of Classic Harley Davidson.

That doesn’t sound too bad, right? Well since I had to schmooze with the Classic Harley dude on the other side of the field, I couldn’t personally ensure the smooth operation at the bench.

- 30 minutes prior to the starting kickoff, I had a meeting with the ball runners. I explained what needed to be done and told them whom they were escorting. I also spoke with my friend Ron and asked him to be the mini- ball guy.

So here’s what happened

MC introduced player
Ron (my helper) gave them a mini-ball.
U-11 girl ran out with their assigned player.

It was beautiful!

There still was going to be a presentation and I needed to get some of the players to represent the team. My biggest goal was to make everything flow continuously, so after the National Anthem, I had the boys launch their mini-balls into the crowd. Now the guys were conveniently an arms length away..

David Horst and David Gray were selected by the coach during warm ups…. and they came over to me for the ceremony. The announcer did his thank you speech, we gave him the ball, shook his hand, took pictures and all was glorious! Honestly the only reason we did it was to kiss their butt for next year. They really didn’t do a thing for us over the season and Jerry is just trying to get a motorcycle for another attempted promotion. If you couldn’t tell, there’s always a lot of political mumbo jumbo going on with the Rage.

----------------

The limbo contest was wonderful! I was able to get 23 volunteers out onto the field! Everything went great and at the fans loved it!

At the last minute, we decided not to have Toro. There was a lot of stuff to give away and I enjoyed getting the children involved.

It got to a point though where a large group of kids started stalking me. They all wanted to be “Little Interns” or get free stuff. Holy Toledo! 50 of them stuck to me like glue throughout the entire stadium. The parents thought it was hilarious… and I did too at times, but I couldn’t even walk without almost tripping over someone. It started getting out of control when they started chasing my golf cart along the track and I had to yell at them. It was nuts! Now I know why some people never want to become parents.

Money and non-perishable items were collected for the Berks County Food Bank again. We only raised 30 dollars, but tripled the amount of canned goods in our stock. I’m planning to continue the effort for one more week and drop off everything at the Food Bank.

Our final record was 6-8-2, which put us at 6th place in the league. Since the team is very young, Derek is bringing back almost the entire roster.
