WALK THE WALK

“It has opened my eyes to this expressive art form and I feel enriched by the experience”, “The creativity of the artists is astonishing, & it feels right to record the work before it is painted over or lost through vandalism and removal by the authorities.

Jozi, she sure is colourful.” “Jozi has some great street art that makes the streets come to life. It's great to finally see that it's starting to be appreciated.” “Absolutely amazing art. A true gift given by God. Amazes me how awesome is.”

"There's something about graffiti....I'm starting to like it. Gotta give credit to the artists, without them there would be nothing to capture!"

“For those of us whose eyes have been opened and who have been introduced to an artscape we never knew about, these are inspirational. So we become advocates for change. And hope to open eyes, just as ours have been opened...”

MARS AT THE GREEN MONSTER IN PARKHURST (SINCE PAINTED OVER)

During the events I made a point to ask photographers about their views on graffiti, street art and tagging. The general consensus was that the defacement of historic buildings and monuments and random, illegal tagging in the suburbs are not acceptable. I had a particularly interesting conversation with Tim Truluck, Democratic Alliance candidate for Ward 117 in the upcoming Municipal elections about the street art at the Green Monster skate park in Parkhurst. He said that he’s tasked with looking after the park as part of his portfolio on the Parkhurst Rate Payers Association, and don’t see anything wrong with the murals surrounding the ramp and the adjacent buildings.
At least the Park is vibrantly alive and used and not a locked up an overgrown eyesore as Faan Smit Park in Melville.

These Photowalks, in my opinion, did a lot to change the perception of a number of people making them look twice at the colourful revolution taking place.
