THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKING

Jan 24, 2010 12:03

I love this photo of my takkie-boots on the wooden floor of the beach house we stayed in while ♥ girl and I were on holiday in Hermanus last week. I think it's the contrast of the bright red against the washed out floorboards. "Takkie" is uniquely South African (sneaker in the rest of the world). There's others words  as well, for instance  "Braai", which is the South African tradition of chucking parts of dead animal on the coals, incinerating and consuming it.

This is the equivalent of "A barbeque" that American pastime of grilling hamburger patties and frankfurters .... but a true South African will do no such thing. Minced meat, processed stuff? No way. It has to be barely dead and bloody. Oh dear, all the bunny huggers are going to have the vapours.

♥ Girl is a Vegetarian and LaBelle is vegan so the meals in our home is quite something, one eats dead animals, the others don't. One is lactose and wheat intolerant, two are not. One gets tummy ache from legumes, the carnivore and vegan don't. In desperation and to state my firm belief in unrestraint consumerism I bought a nice T-Shirt the other day.

Not "Save the Whales" or "Save the Rain Forest" ... but "I Love Animals" Here's a picture. I hope you like my efforts to be politically correct.

This photograph reminds me of the Three Wise Men as referred to in Matthew 2:1 (The latest translation finished only this morning)

"Then opening their treasures they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and mirth and irreverence"

The photograph was taken outside Cape to Cuba in Kalkbay. The bearer of mirth and and irreverence is the lifelike figure in the middle. The real message is the small print below ANIMALS.  It is very important to always read the small print.
