REQUIEM FOR A DREAM
In Melville, close to where I live, restaurants and nightspots open and close with painful regularity. A few stalwarts like de la Crème, Mezaluna, Ants and Buzz9 survives despite the downturn in the economy, others come and go.
La Vista closed its doors earlier this year and its demise is specialy poignant. La Vista used to be owned by award-winning Isidingo (local Soapie) actress Ashley Callie who died in February 2008 as a result of severe head injuries sustained in motor accident.
La Vista used to host opera and Jazz evening on a Sunday night. We’ve dined there a couple of times and the atmosphere was great.
I drive past La Vista each day on my way home. It’s sad to see it deserted with a “To Let” sign in the window.
