this default layout is incredibly boring.

Greetings from Corporate America! I am taking a short break from researching diabetic foot ulcers and biophosphonates to create a blog. This should provide Leslie with even more evidence for her claims that I am far too computer-obsessed or, in her words, "lame."

Thankfully, the first few weeks of summer have been much less monotonous than I had originally anticipated. Things at work have been going well, especially after transferring from Human Resources to Ventures and receiving actual work rather than sitting with Melissa and doing absolutely nothing in the pool room all day. Trust me, there are only so many times you can read cnn.com articles or own your co-workers in Scrabble (sorry, but "Rolex" and "iPod" are not words) before things start going to your head.

So in case anyone cares (admittedly doubtful), I have been rescued from secretary-dom and now help with researching biotechnology startup companies who are hunting for money from venture capital firms like Hunt. Basically I read these companies' business plans and then peruse the wonderful World Wide Web looking for insight (re: the technology, the management team, the market trends, etc.) as to whether or not Hunt should invest.

At times I wonder to myself why I have been put in charge of all this research given that I'm only nineteen years old and know next-to-nothing about the venture capital world. However, it's generally reassuring to tell myself there is even greater irony in that my dad (a lawyer by trade) earns his (reasonably successful) living making investment deals for Hunt BioVentures without even any significant background knowledge in biology (or any natural science, for that matter).

All things considered, this job has been a decent way to pass my eight weeks at home. No sub-minimum wage salary (St. Mark's Day Camp), no awkward hours (Anthropologie), and, best of all, no bile (UT-Southwestern). It's no Camp Longhorn, but I'd consider that less of a "work experience" and more along the lines of "five-week all-expenses-paid vacation" or "excuse to stock up on outrageous theme costumes that I can hopefully reuse during a fall 2k6 tailgate."
