Thank God, I needed some good news after this past week or so.
My father managed to pull through the surgery.
And it was an ordeal... he called us at 8 AM, saying he was prepped and just waiting for them to take him to the OR. Throughout the day, we kept trying to learn of how it was going, whether it was over, and what his condition was. Around 4 PM, we managed to learn that he was stable, and that the plastic surgeon will be arriving around 5, meaning the operation should be nearing its termination. I got off work at 4:30, and joined my uncle who was waiting near the hospital so we could go see him once it was over and talk to the doctor so she could tell us how it went.
But come 5, and then 6, still no news, the operation was still going. At around 7 PM my uncle and I were informed that there was no point in waiting because the operation would go on for a few more hours. So we went home, and waited there.
We were told to try calling around 10, by then it should be done. So we did, only to be told that it was finally in its closing stages, and should be done soon.
He was reportedly finally taken to the... whatever it's called, the post-operation room, at around 1 AM.
Next morning we went to the hospital to try and find out something, and they told us he came through without a glitch, staying in stable condition throughout the operation, and that he would be moved from the post-op emergency room back to the ward that very afternoon. Of course we were delighted as we thought we'd be able to see him, but at the same time a decision was taken to prohibit hospital visits because of the flu epidemic. :-/
So unfortunately we weren't able to see him yet. He's still in stable condition, has regained consciousness and is communicating with the nurses, and we're hopeful he's on his way to a speedy recovery.
