My car had a vacuum leak from hell. This explains why the last few iterations of tuning have been hit-or-miss. I'd be spot on for a few days, and then one day the LTFTs would be way over at -13 and I'd throw a "catalyst efficiency" engine code. WTF?
The vac leak finally got to epic proportions early December, resulting in a tremendous, ear splitting whine. The Devil Car wailed like a banshee. Initially we thought it was the alternator going, so we replaced that. Then we figured out it was a vac leak.
Nino searched for it and thought he found and fixed it. It was nice driving home in silence for once. As I drove back to Nino's the next day though (for an unrelated issue-a transmission fluid leak), it came back.
So, I dropped my car off last week when I headed to MI for the holidays. I expected to pick it up Monday. No dice. Nino STILL has the car. He replaced the MAP sensor and half a dozen vac lines to no avail. Finally, this morning, he found the leak.
It's a gasket. It's either the one between the supercharger and the intercooler, or the one between the intercooler and the intake manifold. He's gotta pull the supercharger to get to it. Blah. So, it'll be tomorrow before I get my car back.
But, at least it won't be whistling. *whew*
