What a difference a day makes, the song goes. Although I've been through things in the past that has made me realise the truth behind those words, this weekend has brought up yet another example.
On Saturday,
lidbert and I attended the wedding party of one of my friends (and one of the directors of the company where I work. It was being held at Portmeirion, the strange little village where the 1960s show The Prisoner was filmed. It was a really nice evening - the wine was flowing, we were entertained by some good friends and colleagues and even ended up having a little bit of a boogie (which I believe is what the kids are calling it these days!).
Lidbert managed to fall over a couple of times - something that made my bosses realise that I only drink to keep up! - and now has a bruised ankle and black toe nail that is about to fall off at any time (different sides - she believes in equality!
Two of the people we were out with (and who were staying in the same hotel and everything) were probably my closest work buddy and her fiance, who is also a friend. Both of them were on form on saturday night, and by the time we got up on Sunday, they had gone already! This will be explained later!
If you hold your wedding at Portmeirion, your guests are invited back the day after to look around the village without charge, seeing as they don't really get the opportunity to see anything on the day before. Unfortunately, the weather had turned on Sunday morning, so we decided to follow our noses back to Denbigh and pop in to see my mother and step-father. It was quite a nice journey, as the sat nav decided that we really should go back through the Snowdonia National Park, rather than along the A55 expressway!
On the Monday morning, I got into work at the usual time to be told that my colleague's fiance, with whom we had had such a good time the night before, had been rushed into hospital on Sunday evening, having suffered a suspected stroke. He's 29.
Thankfully, it wasn't a major one, and his motor functions were not effected, although his speech and short term memory were temporarily screwed up. He has had ongoing medical issues since about 2008, and a stroke was one of the extreme issues that had been discussed as a possibility due to this condition, although not even the doctors really expected anything like that to actually happen. Just goes to show that one really must make the most of life as you never know what's around the corner...
On a much brighter note, I am slowly getting to grips with this new toy of mine - I find it much easier to deal with than the old Windows laptop, although I must admit that I have probably taken more time to try to get my head around this machine than the old one as
lidbert was always at hand to held with the pc. As she's never owned a mac, she doesn't know how it works, so I have to work it out for myself. Turns out I;m not quite as pathetic as I'd given myself credit for!!!
Work is still crazy busy, and just as I see one end in sight, something else comes along to add to the workload. Again, I'm glad that it's there, but I do wish it wasn't always peaks and troughs. A nice steady stream of work would suit me fine!! I don't like doing twelve hour days - I'm not built for them. Especially not when I have a shiny new mac to play with at home....
