What the hell...

I thought there was meant to be so kind of economic downturn? So why the hell are there so many people moving house at the moment? Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. And considering what's recently happened to a bigish firm like Halliwells, I appreciate that I'm lucky to still be in a job at all, let alone being so busy! But there we are. Early starts, no lunch hours and late afternoons (I can't claim to be staying late,  late, but it's definitely later than I normally stay!). On top of that, I'm covering for one of the directors at work whilst she's off for a fortnight! So I'm pending an extra hour a day (when I could be working) travelling between offices, which is more than a little disruptive.

As I said, though, I can't complain!!

The  person I'm covering for is getting married tomorrow, so at least I have that to look forward to. She's getting wed at Portmeirion (the little Italianite village where the 60s series The Prisoner was filmed), so that's fun. The guests get a free entrance into the village the next day too, so lidbert and I  will get the chance to look around afterwards.

Ever since I got my last laptop, I've been having problems with it - it's been slow, blue screening and all sorts of stuff. lidbert  took it into work so that one of her colleagues could have a look at it, and then she went a bought me some more memory for my birthday. It didn't help - in fact, the laptop refused to recognise the full memory it had the capacity to accept and continued to blue screen even afterwards. So I took it to the laptop hospital for them to have a look at. After a fortnight, they phoned to say that they had tried everything short of changing the mother board itself (which wasn't economically reasonable) and there was nothing at all that they could do. It was, according to the technical terminology, fucked!

So, on Wednesday I needed to buy some razor blades (as you do) and the Trafford Centre was the only place still open at that time of night. In the Trafford Centre lives the apple shop, and we decided to go and have a look. Less than twenty minutes later, I was at the counter buying a MacBook Air, with all the accessories that I could to go with it. If I'm going to bankrupt myself, I'm going to do it properly, dagnab it!

On the plus side, lidbert  and my stepfather have the required amount of laptop envy, so that makes it all worth while! Writing this on the new machine is marvellous. I will enjoy very much getting to know the systems over the next few weeks and months.....
