ACLU: 10 Years Too Many"Ten years have passed since the first prisoner arrived in Guantánamo Bay, making it the longest-standing war prison in U.S. history. Almost 800 men have passed through Guantánamo’s cells. Today, 171 men remain. Fashioned as an “island outside the law” where terrorism suspects could be detained without process and interrogated without restraint, Guantánamo has been a catastrophic failure on every front. It is long past time for this shameful episode in American history to be brought to a close."
ACLU: Gitmo by the Numbers

CREDO Action: Tell President Obama and Congress: End indefinite detention and close Guantanamo.

CNN: Gitmo: 10 years of injustice and disgrace

I was arguing with a while back about Gitmo and he made the observation that America does this kind of detention all the time and that Georgie had just been open and transparent about it. (In part to show those "evil ragheads".) I told him that, if it were true, it was still seen as an extra-legal abberation and no one would think of mainstreaming it like Georgie did as if you were describing what particular breed of donkey you prefer to fuck.

civilliberties, rant
