On hold. For now.

So, the filibuster threat by Sen. Dodd that I wrote about a few days ago worked. Senate Majority Leader Reid pulled consideration of the extensions of the FISA act when it became abundantly clear that debate and filibuster could go on through the end of the week and into Christmas. (Of course, he says that he wasn't swayed by or afraid of Sen. Dodd's actions and supporters. *snort* If that's so, Sen. Reid, then why did you pull the bill?)

Learning from Georgie, he's just kicked the can down the road a month or so where it will be more urgent to pass and, I certainly hope, it will receive just as much debate and filibustering, if necessary.

I got pointed to this link on C-SPAN's archives that has the entire day's worth of transcripts. Yes, it's sausage-making in action, but it is amazing reading the strident rhetoric from Sens. Hatch, McConnell and Sessions in favor of retroactive immunity for those poor, poor telecoms threatened by the evil trial lawyers with sharp pointy teeth and a quiver of Summon Terrorist scrolls.
